Anthro Stamp by evilempress Anthro Stamp by evilempress
Just a different stamp for me to use. Feel free to thumb it.

Thank you all for the ridiculously awesome support. ouO I'm as averse to the term 'furry' as the next person. Anthro FTW!

If you'd care to follow my current account, I'm now at :icontinintri:

I'm wondering if there is a difference between the terms anthro and furry. Can somebody please tell me?

Anthro is ANYTHING that is normally not human given human-like traits, wheras Furry simply means an Anthropomorphic Animal of any kind.

Anthro is the more broader term for a furry. Hopefully this answers your question. :)

Ok, thanks for answering my question :D

I usually use "anthro" more than "furry" so I'm glad I know the difference now

I'd say that furry is a fandom or subculture (and the member of it is called so)... an identity. It defines a person, not a character I believe, as a character that belongs to a furry is rather called a fursona, and they can be either animals and fantasy creatures and also plants(really, I've seen some even if they're rare, which means furry doesn't mean an anthro ANIMAL) etc.

I bet that Orwel wasn't a furry nor the characters from the Animal Farm were BTW... and the same with other animal fable writers and characters. etc. And those were fully anthro animals: had human mental traits and often walked on two. I won't believe that all the fairytales for children are furry xD Or like 90% of children(from somehow civilised countries) are furries, hahah xD Native Americans were furries then too, they also identified with animals and stuffxD so NO. I definitely don't support the overly broad furry definition that covers all anthro animals...
Besides, I don't think it's logical to actually cover all anthro animals, regardless of belonging to furry community or not, under a term that derived from a word that means 'covered in fur'. It's not a perfect term for all anthro animals, even though furries accept non-furried creatures too, not to exclude anyone...

Also, you don't say 'I'm an anthro'(if you don't say this reffering to your id-character but to your human self only) but you can say 'I'm a furry'(if you refer to the human self again), I bet there is a difference then.

Yeah, I see your point XD and I don't think Animal Farm is the same either, they're pretty much talking animals most the time anyways (that is, until the end)

Nice stamp!

Personally I prefer the term "furry", haven't met anyone yet who was averse to it. Really anything can be anthro, from an animal to a toaster, lamp, vacuum cleaner, radio . . .

I honestly don't see a difference between "anthro" and "furry," but anthro isn't a loaded term, as furry is.

Yay for anthros! As far as I can gather, all furries are anthro, but not all anthro are furries, although I'm sure there's exceptions. I think furries are more involved with being representative of an actual person, while anthro are simply any objects/plants/animals made more human. =^.^=

Personally, I'm okay with "furry". Remember, "anthro" can mean anything humanized -- remember The Brave Little Toaster ? That was anthro!

Hey, ummm.... what's the diffirence between a furry and an anthro. I know that the diffirence is notable, but i doubt that all furries are perverted zoophiles as some of these comments make them out to be.

An anthro has, like, the ears of an animal, while a furry... Err, a furry has a lot to do with sexual stuff.

:iconyaoumei:

Actually, an anthro is anything that has human like characteristics, like... even if a pencil had human legs and arms and talked or something... Furry is the animal version of anthros. Zoomorphs are the people with just animal ears or tails.

I had no idea. I just thought that the sexual side was a stereotype of furry, that some people dislike, like all subcultures have stereotypes. . .
